Herman and Phoebe in their early years.
This book can be seen as a Trilogy. It covers three different periods in te lives of Phoebe Heath and Herman stoker. It has been written been three different authors, we their daughters, Anne Beard, Elizabeth Culp and Louise Booysen. Each has taken ownership of a separate period in the life and times of their parents, but they are connected and told collectivly as their (unlikely) Love Story.
What makes this story so unique is that it was written against the backgroundof some of the crucial historical events that occurred in the American, European and South African settings at the time, even well before, but also during their marriage.
